Things girls “must be clear” about when waxing at home.

During this holiday season, you might be wearing short dresses quite often, which makes dealing with unwanted hair a concern. Here are some specific guidelines if you want to do at-home waxing

1. Ensure Skin is Clean and Dry Before Waxing

The best time to wax is after a shower, as both your skin and hair will be cleaner and softer. Your skin must be thoroughly clean for the wax to adhere properly and work effectively. During your shower, remember to gently exfoliate your skin to expose the hair fully, which will make waxing easier.

Before you begin, make sure your skin is completely dry. Even a slight dampness can make it difficult for the wax to stick to the skin. To dry your skin completely, sprinkle a bit of talcum powder on the area to be waxed, spread it evenly, and then wipe off any excess with a dry towel.

2. Check Hair Length

For effective and smooth at-home waxing, your hair should neither be too short nor too long. The ideal hair length for waxing is between 6-7 millimeters. If the hair is too short, it may be difficult to remove completely; if it’s too long, it can become tangled during the waxing process, causing more pain. If your hair is longer than 1 centimeter, trim it first with a specialized trimmer.

3. Test the Wax Before Applying

After melting the wax, let it cool slightly. The wax should be liquid but still have some consistency, not too runny. Before applying the wax to the area you want to wax, test a small amount on the inside of your wrist to ensure it’s not too hot. Throughout the waxing process, continue to stir the wax regularly.

4. Apply Wax Properly

If you think applying a large amount of wax over a wide area will save time, you’re mistaken. Doing so will not only waste more wax but also result in less effective hair removal. The correct and most effective method is to apply wax in small sections, with a width of no more than 3 centimeters and a length of no more than 8 centimeters. Make sure to apply the wax in the direction of hair growth and apply a slightly thicker layer to make it easier to pull off later.

5. Remove the Wax Properly

Removing the wax might seem straightforward but is often done incorrectly. One effective technique is to pull the wax off in a quick, swift motion, similar to flipping a page of a book. After pulling the wax off, quickly press your fingers on the area to help reduce pain. Additionally, avoid waxing the same area more than once in a row, as it can cause significant damage to your skin. For any stubborn, individual hairs, use tweezers to remove them.

6. Soothe the Skin After Waxing

After finishing the waxing process, apply a layer of baby oil to your skin to remove any leftover wax and to soothe the area. Follow up with a product designed to prevent ingrown hairs.
